Things to Put in Mind When Planning for Your Log Home’s Construction

Wood is more classy than many other building materials and it makes a home look and feel very natural. Wood gives a home a rustic feel, which is the trend nowadays and with the perfect d?cor and lighting to match it, you can achieve a home that you will never feel like leaving. One of the best wood designs you can incorporate for your home today is logs. They are very artistic and make a home unique and magnificent when all is done. When thinking about constructing a log home, there are four things that you must consider:

The kinds of logs to utilize
Logs come in three different categories; milled, hand-hewn, or scribed. Milled logs are operated on tools to make them similar to each other. Their specific styles are usually; square, round, rectangular or ‘D’ shaped. They are easy to stack and have a near precision joinery. They are popularly made from pine and cedar trees, and they are kiln-dried to adjust their moisture content.

Hand hewn logs are usually crafted using hands to make them bring out the look and feel of an old house. They take time to craft and can be provided either chopped or peeled. They are stacked together, and then the gaps between them filled up in a process called chinking.

Scribed logs are hand-crafted as well, but they do not require chinking. Instead, the region where the two logs come into contact with each other is traced and eliminated with a saw. Their length is usually the physical height of the tree they make use of.

The layout plan of your log home
A log home is not simple and hence needs to be designed before construction begins to create a plan and assess other related elements like cost, materials, and so on. You can either consult an architect to design the home for you or you can go with preferred plans you have seen elsewhere. The advantage of working with an architect is that he or she is experienced with log home construction and can come in handy to direct the project. If you do not have an architect to oversee the building, the staff you hire must be experts in the area to ensure you get what you are looking for.

The cost of the home’s construction
The things that will affect your budget for your log home are; size, type of logs selected, and workforce. Also, if you will hire an architect design or supervise the project, your costs will go higher relatively. Be open about your budget with your architect to ensure that he or she designs a log home that you can afford.

The construction site
The land where you want to build your log home can either be rural or urban. Make sure you are aware of the permits you require before launching your home’s construction. Based on the utilities around you, make arrangements for any additional amenities you will need like boreholes, electricity, etc.
